I'm very happy to announce that I am holding a one-week solo exhibition at Black Penny, 648 Bourke St in Surry Hills (Sydney , Australia). Exhibition runs from the 4th to the 10th of November. Free entry, please come by and let me know what you think. Video done by Nick Saxon. The press release here:

“They will come”, solo exhibition by Sydney based artist, Mexico born, Goya Torres. This exhibition celebrates the Day of The Dead with a compilation of artwork by Goya Torres, that relates to the core idea behind the this symbolic celebration: to honor the past life of ancestors.

Originally from Veracruz, Mexico, Goya Torres felt the necessity to bring together her vision on the popular Day of the Dead, not only by showing artwork that reflects the popular folklore of Mexico, but also its traditions, ancient past, culture and ideology in a contemporary visual language.

This exhibition showcases a mix of Goya Torres artwork produced since 2013 and brand new work, from oil, acrylic and spray-paint on canvas and wood, printmaking techniques on paper, to mix paint on a tequila bottle.

Also, mexican anthropologist Raquel Duron Perez has been invited to showcase a Day of the Dead typical mexican altar. - Black Penny, 648 Bourke St, Surry Hills.

"EQUINOX" is define as a moment of balance when both northern and southern hemispheres are equal under the sun, when the sun is directly above the equator. September is the second equinox of the year when southern hemisphere returns itself to warmth…

"EQUINOX" is define as a moment of balance when both northern and southern hemispheres are equal under the sun, when the sun is directly above the equator. September is the second equinox of the year when southern hemisphere returns itself to warmth, therefore the artists have chosen this month for their exhibition, and at the same time as The Manly Arts Festival 2014.

Three artists, three styles, three visual languages have come together in "EQUINOX". The concept of balance and equality as the ground of humanity: light-darkness, birth-death, conflict-peace, day-night, love-hate, end-beginning. Both sides come together to eventually create a state of spiritual resurrection and reborn, submerging the viewer into a deep moment of transformation and insight about their own existence.

M-lon, Lotte Smith and Goya Torres, the artists.

"Fragility", Wild! Rhino project for Taronga Zoo - Exhibition/Auction

This year I was lucky enough to get chosen to participate in the Wild! Rhino project, painting a life-size rhino sculpture alongside other 84 artists, a total of 125 rhinos (adults and calfs). My rhino got auction for $10 K. All money will go towards programs to save the rhino from extinction. Some more info about the project:

My rhino "Fragility" takes a critical view on how humanity has impacted on the survival of the rhino and other endangered species close to extinction. It portraits the fragile contrast of life and death: On the back of the rhino the visible bones underneath the torn skin symbolise death and extinction, on the front the art-line shows the over-delicate nature of their existence.", designed and painted by Gloria Torres ( Goya Torres Art ), sponsored by Hotel Steyne Manly , as part of the Taronga Wild! Rhinos project organised by Taronga Zoo .

Taronga Wild! Rhinos is a Wild in Art event that will bring businesses, artists and schools together to create a spectacular world-class sculpture trail from the Sydney Harbour foreshore through the Blue Mountains to Dubbo and the Central West region of NSW.

From February – April 2014 a huge herd of wildly colourful rhino sculptures painted by artists and their small calves decorated by local schools will charge into town as part of a mass public art exhibition to help raise awareness and valuable funds for Taronga’s world leading Black Rhino breeding program and in-situ conservation projects.
