Artwork by Goya Torres. Original for sale, PM the artist. Available as print only by request.
This artwork is a sentimental, strong and heavy portrait of a young man conflicted by his own demons, which are the result of his mental health issues, more specially a psychotic disorder. The symbolism behind the work, from the dripping paint to the story-telling elements within, allows the viewer to unveil the meaning behind the portrait and connect with the painting, to even wonder if the artist might have had a link to the sitter. This artwork was done as part of the Young Artist in Residence Studio project at Art Space Portsmouth in the United Kingdom (2018).

‘The Fighter’ - 195x195
This painting depicts the retired John Wayne Parr, Australian Muay Thai fighter and boxer, former 10-time World Champion now residing in the Gold Coast. He started from a very young age and life took him to initially develop his career in Thailand. His passion and fury in the ring made him the very first recognised Australian World Champion in Thailand and later brought him international acknowledgment. Instead of portraying him on outrage fighting mode, the subject is sitting in the corner of the ring, on a contemplative state of self-insight and reflection which strongly showcases the current state of his life. On his side, a paired of tigers stand still, which symbolise strength, protection, conviction and authority, very much linked to the Thai culture. John’s life is the dedication to a sport that starts in the very core of the human psyche and this painting demonstrate that spirit and devotion.
Local artists Goya Torres and M-lon participated doing live-painting for Flavours of Spain - On Site Catering+Corporate+Events Sydney & Melbourne as part of the Food and Wine Festival opening in Manly Corso in Sydney. Both paintings were auctioned at the end of the day.

A little story about this painting: I finish this artwork at the same time that the events of Ayotzinapa in Mexico escalated, so I couldn't stop the painting to lead the meaning itself. (If you want to know about it please watch this video that explains it all:https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=477441155730730&set=vb.407570359384477&type=2&theater ). At this time I came across a really powerful quote online related to this event: "They tried to buried us, they didn't know we were seeds". I believe the people of Mexico will be the only ones to freedom themselves from corruption, not any political party. I feel very proud of where I come from and I feel hopeful for our future. People is waking up and the world is looking at us today.#PaintingForAyotzinapa #PintandoPorAyotzinapa #Ayotzinapa #43x43 #Yamecanse#Mexico #somostodosayotzinapa #guerrero #renunciaepn
In the last two years of my practice as a mural artist I have been painting a consistent theme of children with strong indigenous features holding spirit animals on their heads and shoulders, usually endemic species from the area of inspiration, symbolising the union of humans and the natural world. I mix this idea with the representation of a totem.
