‘The Reconstruction of You’, acrylic, oil, aerosol, oil pastel and charcoal on linen. 181x135cm.
Artwork by Goya Torres. Original for sale, PM the artist. Available as print only by request.
This artwork is the result of a portrait session with a young man conflicted with a psychotic disorder. The heavy symbolism of this piece, where the body is fragmented in pieces leaving only two arms, chest and eye dripping into a pound of water, is the methapor of what happens when a human brain plays with its mind, leaving their true essence confused and behind of what once they were. The sitter will forever remain unstable, confuse and volatile due to his condition. ‘The Reconstruction of You’ is a portrait of this state. This artwork was done as part of the Young Artist in Residence Studio project at Art Space Portsmouth in the United Kingdom (2018).
