This painting depicts the retired John Wayne Parr, Australian Muay Thai fighter and boxer, former 10-time World Champion now residing in the Gold Coast. He started from a very young age and life took him to initially develop his career in Thailand. His passion and fury in the ring made him the very first recognised Australian World Champion in Thailand and later brought him international acknowledgment. Instead of portraying him on outrage fighting
mode, the subject is sitting in the corner of the ring, on a contemplative state of self-insight and reflection which strongly showcases the current state of his life. On his side, a paired of tigers stand still, which symbolise strength, protection, conviction and authority, very much linked to the Thai culture. John’s life is the dedication to a sport that starts in the very core of the human psyche and this painting demonstrate that spirit and devotion.
